Collecting city data
Complementing the risk assessments is resilience.io, an innovative decision-making tool that collects data on a city. Developed by The Ecological Sequestration Trust, resilience.io gathers data from a variety of sources – satellite and earth observation, as well as open government and crowd-sourced economic, social and environmental data – and brings them all together in one place. Resilience.io is unusual in that it understands cities as systems and identifies links between the various sectors, a valuable contribution to resilience that has so far been missing.
03/07/2015, London – Mayor and Governor of Ulaanbaatar, Bat-Üül Erdene and Professor Peter Head CBE, Founder and Chief Executive of The Trust sign a Memorandum of Understanding, in the presence of Prime Minister Chimed Saikhanbileg of Mongolia, to work in partnership delivering smart, resilient and sustainable development for the people of Mongolia.
The Trust, a UK charity, has been working in Ulaanbaatar since December 2013 supported by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) British Embassy of Mongolia and Future Earth Ltd to create an integrated, urban-rural, systems data platform called resilience.io. This tool will enable cities to plan and evaluate the business case for investment in projects that bring improved human wellbeing, resource efficiency, clean energy and renewable technologies which restore ecological and freshwater systems and secure the production of safe food.
The Cities Alliance and UK Department of International Development (DFID) have launched a major new partnership initiative to support African cities as they transform themselves into resilient, inclusive centres of economic growth.
As part of the initiative, we are also establishing the resilience.io platform, a highly innovative new planning and investment decision-making support tool that is being developed by The Trust.
We believe that by using integrated systems thinking and collaborative intelligence, transformational change is truly within the reach of communities, businesses and governments globally.
This report introduces resilience.io. It is a tool that allows city-regions globally, to assess their current development path and map out a more sustainable and resilient trajectory. It is intended for use for planning, investment and policy-making, to embed resilience within city-regions and help deliver the post 2015 Sustainable Development Goals.
The Ecological Sequestration Trust and the world’s first integrated ecological – social and economic systems model resilience.io introduced in a short film.
Soil to Sky is presented in partnership with the International Centre for Earth Simulation. The film was first presented at the Mansion House in London at the invitation of Fiona Woolf.
